Yorkshireman Noden second overseas recruit for UniversityGrange

- ADRIAN SECONI

UNIVERSITYGRANGE has recruited a second overseas player for the season.

Yorkshire’s Sam Noden will be spending the summer in Dunedin after answering the call from the club.

UniversityGrange is back in the senior grade following a fouryear absence and has been recruiting hard to help fill the roster.

Last week the club revealed Australian leftarm spinner and middleorder batsman Joshua Taylor would join the campaign.

Noden looks another very handy addition. The Sandal Cricket Club opening bowler has claimed 170 wickets during the past three seasons and can bat as well. He holds the club record for highest individual score with 164 not out.

UniversityGrange president Matiu Workman said Noden’s decision to join the side would lift the senior grade playing roster to about ‘‘13 or 14’’, so there was still more recruitment work ahead.

But the club has found a solid ally in the Dunedin Cricket Association (DCA).

‘‘We’re slowly building,’’ he said.

‘‘We knew everyone was not going to come flooding in on the first of August but the DCA has recognised that we probably need some help and have offered their support. And we are still working on key partnerships with schools as part of this recruitment strategy.’’

Noden had a stint with Pines Cricket Club in Melbourne in 201415. He also has some coaching experience.

He is expected to arrive in Dunedin before the side’s first preseason match against Kaikorai late next month.
