Three cars damaged, man charged
Approval for urgent museum maintenance
A Welshman on a working holiday badly damaged these cars and also caused significant damage to a third while allegedly driving while nearly four times the legal limit in Frankton on Monday night.
Sergeant Steve Watt, of Queenstown, said the 38yearold recorded a breathalcohol level of 931mcg after crashing into a parked car (right) in Lake Ave about 11.40pm. The legal limit is 250mcg.
The impact shunted the first car into another parked car, which was also damaged.
The driver, who had just left a nearby tavern, was unhurt. He is expected to appear in court next week.
URGENT maintenance costing $142,675 for the Central Stories Museum and Art Gallery in Alexandra has been approved by the Vincent Community Board (VCB).
VCB members at their meeting in Alexandra yesterday voted in favour of the project, after considering a report by Central Otago District Council property and facilities officer Christina Martin.
The work includes heating, ventilation and air conditioning plant repairs, roof replacement and repairs, and repainting of the Alexandra building’s plastered exterior.
There was no budget for the work, and $52,875 was requested from the VCB’s General Development Alexandra Investment Account.
The rest of the funding will come from the Central Cultural Centre Trust ($55,000) and re allocation of funding in the VCB’s 201819 budget ($34,800).
More engineering investigations into structural issues around the museum’s garage, due to water leaks, also need to be carried out.
The CODC last year took over formal ownership of the Central Stories building from the Central Cultural Trust, which has about $55,000 left in its trust account.
