Rescued skydiver released from hospital

THE woman seriously injured after crashing near the Cardrona Alpine Resort on Monday remains in a stable condition in Dunedin hospital.

And the 29yearold skydiver injured after crashlanding at NZone that afternoon has been released from hospital.

In a statement, NZone said the skydiver was an ‘‘experienced member of the NZone Skydive team’’ on a solo recreational jump at the time.

‘‘The company is carrying out an internal review into the solo skydiver’s accident in keeping with its standard operational safety procedures.’’

The incident was not being investigated by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), the statement said.

Times reported the man crashed at 3.25pm about 50m from NZone’s buildings near Jack’s Point.

CAA spokesman Mike Richards said his ‘‘chute slider’’ fell over his face and he could not see where to land, hit the ground hard and ‘‘cartwheeled’’ for about 5m but had no fractures and was talking.

CAA senior communications adviser Philippa Lagan told the ODT yesterday the authority was unable to provide an update because it was still wait ing to talk to the operator and receive information from police.

In the first incident, a woman skier/paraglider was believed to have been ‘‘speed riding’’ at the time, a combination of skiing and flying down the mountain.

Senior Communications Adviser Melissa Garry, of the Southern District Health Board, confirmed the woman remained in hospital.
