AS Ian Taylor bathed in the afterglow of the Pink show at the stadium (ODT, 6.9.18 ), and praised former mayor Peter Chin, he appears to have bypassed the ever increasing red glow emanating from the stadium — an indication of the debt that has put this city in a deeper shade of red, ably assisted by the approximat­ely $20 million annually paid just to service the debt. THE wellmeant but hopeless efforts of wouldbe whale rescuers (ODT, 6.8.18) filled this seaman with sadness. Wet sand acts as a viscous liquid and surf pushed the whales inshore to hightide level. They were doomed when they hit the beach. R. Clough
