Man shot at pig trap

Rotorua: One person was arrested after a 28yearold man was shot in the leg in Eastern Bay of Plenty on Thursday.

Senior Sergeant Richard Miller said the incident happened in a rural area east of Opotiki about 5pm.

The man was in a group of three or four people building a pig trap when another man approached and allegedly fired on the group.

A 56yearold local man was later arrested at a property with the assistance of the armed offenders squad. He was due to appear in Whakatane District Courtcharg­ed with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and unlawful possession of a firearm. — NZME
