Challenge for Burmester
Multisport: Former Olympian and Commonwealth Games gold medallist Moss Burmester enjoyed this year’s Coast to Coast so much he is going to do it again — and make it more challenging.
Last time the former world champion swimmer competed in a tandem team with his partner, Carolyn Arthur.
This time he will take on the event’s Longest Day race, on February 8, cycling, running and kayaking the course’s 243km from Kumara Beach to New Brighton.
‘‘I just loved the event this year, not only the racing itself, but the journey of training and learning new skills and taking on new adventures,’’ Burmester said.
‘‘When I swam professionally I was so fit and healthy I believed I could complete any event out there — even though I might have been a fish out of water — and now is my opportunity to step up and make it a reality.’’
