WBHS review begins
Oamaru: The Ministry of Education has started its annual review of Waitaki Boys’ High School.
Sector enablement and support deputy secretary Katrina Casey said the school’s intervention, in place for four years, was longer than the ministry would normally expect.
‘‘Good progress has been made
. . . At the last annual review, the main reason for continuing the intervention was that a new, firsttime principal had just been appointed and it was important to maintain a stable governance situation in support.
‘‘We receive regular updates from the commissioner [Invercargill lawyer Craig Smith] and are aware of improvements in community confidence and student achievement over the last year.’’
Mr Smith was scheduled to speak to parents interested in being on the next board of trustees this week.
He did not respond to a request for comment.
