WORKING together to connect people and achieve great things.

Every year on December 5, International Volunteer Day, a United Nationsled initiative, is celebrated worldwide.

Onebillion people volunteer around the world, all giving their time and skills to improve communities, support people, enhance their surroundings and bring people together.

Volunteers across the region are part of a bigger global movement of volunteers.

The theme for 2018 is ‘‘Volunteers build Resilient Communities’’, which emphasises the power of community and that, by working together, we can achieve great things.

At a local level, hundreds of groups and individuals are working together to support others, to improve our surroundings, to deliver and enhance events, to keep activities and programmes running.

They’re also connected with the wider world in many ways, and there are some great organisations and volunteers operating internationally based here in Otago.

Volunteers create positive change on many fronts. They get involved in order to learn new skills; gain knowledge and experience; develop existing skills; find new passions; meet new people and form longterm friendships and partnerships; contribute to a good cause; make an invaluable difference and have fun.

Volunteering Otago would like to thank the amazing volunteers in our communities for sharing their time, energy, and skills.
