THE Cromwell Community Board has approved more than $90,000 for popular events in Cromwell.

The Cromwell Cherry Festival, Light Up Winter and Cromwell Street Party and Fireworks all received backing from the board this week.

The funding includes $9000 for Light Up Winter, $5000 for the street party and a further $2000 for the cherry festival.

The allocation includes costs for communications, promotions, community and oper ational expenses amounting to $76,700.

The allocation follows an application by the Cromwell and Districts Promotions Group. It had requested $108,800 for the next financial year.

Group chairwoman Janeen Wood said at the board meeting there had been plenty of support and commitment from the community for local events.

‘‘We’ve been getting so much support from the community and [local] businesses for these events. They want them to get bigger and better each year.’’
