Fire rages on Gold Coast

Brisbane: Gold Coast residentswere evacuated yesterday after a large grass fire broke out at one of the holiday destination’s most famous beaches.

The blaze began burning in Phillip Park at Main Beach on Seaworld Drive in Southport about 2.30pm (5.30pm NZT) yesterday, police said.

An exclusion zone, including the Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort, was established around the fire and all residents and holidaymakers evacuated. — AAP
