Waiareka

ANOTHER big yarding of sheep was offered at last week’s Waiareka stock sale.

Quality was slightly mixed in the lamb pens and prices were ‘‘so so’’ with the exception of several outstandin­g pens of large lambs.

Ewes continued to sell very strongly while cattle offered were all dairy beef and met limited demand.

Top prime lambs, $154$172; medium, $126$141; lighter, $103$123; top twotooths, $100$118; medium, $84; heavy ewes, $160$180; medium, $120$155; lighter, $60$115.

Top store lambs, $87$99; medium, $71$78; lighter, $31$50; rams, $122.

Store cattle — R2 HerefordFr­iesian steers, 480kg at $1160; R2 HerefordFr­iesian heifers, 382kg at $800; R1 HerefordFr­iesian bull calves, 160kg at $460; R1 HerefordFr­iesian steer calves, 132kg at $430; R1 HerefordFr­iesian heifer calves, 180kg at $400; R2 empty Friesian heifer, 400kg at $610.

Quality was high at the Omarama calf sale and an outstandin­g lineup of beef calves was offered.

Prices followed other sales this year, being back, but not to the same level as other sales.

Balclutha

A REASONABLE yarding of prime lambs was offered last week, and they dropped slightly in price but still sold well. Prime ewes continue to make good money. A good yarding of store lambs also dropped slightly in price, but sold well overall.
