Dunedin artist wins residency
A DUNEDIN artist will head to Austria later this year after beating 800 international applicants for a threemonth residency there.
Otago Polytechnic Dunedin School of Art graduate Arati Kushwaha has been accepted as the 2019 artistinresidence with KulturKontakt Austria.
The placement is offered by the Austrian Federal Chancellery in cooperation with KulturKontakt.
It includes a studio, enabling the recipient to become familiar with the Austrian art scene and make contact with Austrian artists.
Kushwaha, who graduated with a masters degree in 2018, explores themes of gender, identity, sexuality, femininity, selfinduced abortion and destruction.
She plans to complete a work during her time in Austria.
The residency starts in October.
