BluesPirates Old Boys game of round

- JOHN LANGFORD

THE fifthround games in the Southland premier competition will be completed tonight.

The game of the round will be the pool B clash between Blues and Pirates Old Boys at Les George Oval at 7.30pm.

Both teams will be hoping to find some form after making subdued starts to the season.

Blues has been defaulted in two of its four scheduled games so far and assistant coach Simon Frisby thinks it showed during the 3320 loss to Star last week ‘‘the boys were very keen, maybe too keen and unfortunately we had a lot of 5050 ball that didn’t go to hand and Star punished our mistakes’’.

Pirate Old Boys narrowly beat Wyndham 2421 last week and, in doing so, confirmed its third position in pool B.

In other pool B games this round, Waikaka has a tough assignment against Star at the Gore Showgrounds at 7.30pm today, while Riversdale host Wyndham at 4pm today.

In pool A, Woodlands is expecting a tough game at home tonight against Eastern Northern Barbarians at 7.30.

The Barbarians enjoyed a 4512 win in Te Anau last week. Coach Mark Hourston was pleased with the Barbarians’ efforts.

‘‘We enjoyed a good win on Lachie McCall’s 100th game,’’ he said.

‘‘It is an outstanding effort from him considering this team has only played 101 games.’’

Edendale bounced back to form last week with a 4127 win over Midlands, but tonight the Magpies have the daunting task of hosting Marist at 7pm.

Midlands and Te Anau played last night at Limehills.

Waikiwi was the only unbeaten team in the division one competition heading into its round four match against Pioneer last night. Albion Excelsior also played last night in Tuatapere.

Blues B and Star B will meet tonight at Les George 6 o’clock. Wakatipu and Mossburn will play at Queenstown Events Centre.

Mossburn beat Albion Excelsior last week 3614 in Athol.
