SdE employees in limbo

-

Invercargill: Employees of Southland disAbility Enterprises (SdE) will have to wait until at least the end of the month to find out if they keep their jobs.

The current WasteNet contract has been with SdE for the past eight years and is due to expire on June 30.

WasteNet spokesman and Southland Mayor Gary Tong said last week the decision on who would get WasteNet’s tender to recycle the region’s waste would not happen before the end of April.

Almost 90 of those employed by SdE are disabled and many family members have expressed concerns that if the contract is not renewed, there will be very few work opportunities for their loved ones.
