Michael Gibson Mathie (57), of Dunedin, drinkdrivi­ng, 817mcg (Mathie was driving in George St in early hours when police noticed his ‘‘erratic’’ driving and pulled him over; he admitted drinking), January 12, three months’ community detention, disqualifi­ed one year and one day. Judge Turner told him he ‘‘might want to think about how much you do drink when you consume alcohol’’; it was Mathie’s fourth such offence in 36 years.

Melanie Jayne Powell (40), of Mosgiel, drinkdrivi­ng, 600mcg, Argyle St, Mosgiel, seven weeks’ community detention, 12 months’ intensive supervisio­n, disqualifi­ed one year and one month; intentiona­l damage (slammed partner’s front door causing glass pane to break), Mosgiel, March 24, reparation $983. Powell had four previous drinkdrive conviction­s. Public defender Andrew Dawson said Powell used alcohol as a crutch.

Ephraim Oostendorp (21), of Dunedin, 16 offences dating between November and January including dishonestl­y getting into a motor vehicle, burglary, theft and trespass (took food from Pak’N Save South Dunedin; took clothing and shoes on different occasions from Rebel Sports; clothing from Macpac and the Dunedin Sheep Skin Shop; trespassed on Rebel Sports premises; entered a building on Castle St with intent to commit an offence; dishonestl­y interfered with three motor vehicles; stole a Farmers gift card and money worth $30; unlawfully got into a vehicle), one year’s intensive supervisio­n, ordered to pay $1900 reparation.

Samuel Tasi Watt (22), assault (on February 23 punched a bouncer who tried to escort him off the premises of Catacombs Bar in the Octagon; told police it was a reaction to being grabbed by the victim; his lawyer, Noel Rayner, said Watt was upset about being made to leave by the back entrance to the bar, which opened on to an undergroun­d car park; Watt was worried about his safety), 60 hours’ community work, six months’ supervisio­n, ordered to pay $200 emotional harm reparation.

Samuel Christophe­r Burgess (30), intentiona­l damage and possessing offensive weapon, axe, in circumstan­ces showing intent to commit offence involving threat of violence (living in Invercargi­ll budget accommodat­ion, left his room and went to female associate’s room on a lower level floor, stood outside door, tried listening to see if another male was inside; returned to his room, got television, can of spray paint and large axe; back outside associate’s room spraypaint­ed abusive word on door, put TV in front of door, smashed TV with axe), about 2.30am, December 12, overall sentence 120 hours’ community work, nine months’ supervisio­n. Public defender Sophia Thorburn said Burgess had paid reparation.

Casey Richmond (24), of Milton, breaching release conditions, March 21, sentence deferred six months.

Kyle HuiRua Walters (34), forestry worker, drinkdrivi­ng, 476mcg, Daniels Rd, Christchur­ch, about 1am, September 20, fined $850, court costs $130, disqualifi­ed 28 days (alcoholint­erlock and zeroalcoho­l licence provisions to follow). Magistrate noted Walters previously convicted of drinkdrivi­ng in 2014.

Jordan Andrew Pearson (18), butcher, of Mosgiel, disqualifi­ed driving, Factory Rd, Mosgiel, about 2.40am, April 22, fined $200, court costs $130, disqualifi­ed six months.

AHayden Arthur George (27), employed, disqualifi­ed driving, Clyde St, Balclutha, April 30, disqualifi­ed six months.

CoryLee Pakira Pere Paratene AllenMacDo­nald, also known as CoryLee Allen (22), of Dunedin, driving at dangerous speed (heading towards Dunedin on southern motorway, speed clocked at 184kmh; produced learner licence, said going to pick up his girlfriend and was unaware of his speed), about 5.30pm, November 28, 50 hours’ community work, disqualifi­ed six months; breaching community work (failed to complete required hours within period prescribed), February 6, convicted and discharged; unpaid fines and enforcemen­t fees ($1658) remitted, taken into account in length of community work term.

Ashleigh Kate McFarlane (29), of Dunedin, stealing grocery items (value $71.81), Gardens New World, about 4pm, March 28, sentence deferred six months. Prosecutor Sergeant Mike Wingfield said reparation not sought, items recovered.
