Had quite enough of National’s ‘attack politics’

-

NATIONAL supporters will be pleased with the latest polls.

However, if we look at the legacy of the last National government, it is still found wanting and its constant bleating has little substance.

Our local National MP continues his moaning about health issues but it was his government that ran down the health sector, and health targets did not prevent that.

The previous National government also denied there was a housing shortage for most of its term and only built around 338 state houses during its nine years in office. While KiwiBuild has been overly ambitious, the current Government has built over 2000 state houses in two years and acknowledges we have a huge housing crisis.

If National gets into power again, we will see more punitive social policies like the one whereby they punished women financially if they wouldn’t name the father of their child or children.

Yes, fathers should contribute financially to their children but what about cases of incest, rape or women who have experienced or been threatened by domestic violence? I’m sure for the sake of safety and lack of trust in the ‘‘system’’, many women would not disclose the father’s details out of fear. National MPs were very proud of this policy. How absolutely shameful.

It’s unfortunate that some of us have unrealistic expectations of how much time it takes to fix systemic issues, and patience isn’t easy.

However, I have much more confidence in the current coalition government to get things done that matter. All another National government will do is help out its wealthy mates and not give a damn about those who struggle.

The attack politics National engages in is not worthy and is boringly painful to watch.
