Hope for more points
Cricket: Otago and Auckland will be hoping to rake in a few more points from last week’s abandoned Plunket Shield fixture at the University of Otago Oval.
Under the playing conditions, each team is awarded four points for a weatherrelated abandonment. But there is provision to award the average number of points scored during the round if the abandonment is for reasons other than weather.
Drainage was an issue at the venue and match referee Richard Hayward has submitted a report to New Zealand
Cricket (NZC).
Yesterday a NZC spokesman said the issue was still being discussed.
‘‘We should be in a position to comment by the end of the week.’’
