Consent for office and apartment building
RESOURCE consent has been granted for a new threestorey apartment and office building, Montrose House, in Dunedin North.
The former Unity House complex at 516 George St was demolished by a digger yesterday.
The Dunedin City Council has advised applicants Wayne and Kaye Graham that consent was granted to replace the previous twostorey building at the George St site with the proposed new structure.
Council planner Lucy Collins wrote to the applicants, advising of the approval, subject to conditions, and including a background report.
Council records showed there had been at least one dwelling on the 642sq m site since 1861 and significant alterations and additions had been undertaken since 1923.
The proposed new building would have a 445sq m footprint, and would include 15 apartments on the second and third floors, as well as an office and car park on the ground floor.
It is understood that LJ Hooker, a real estate business, intends to occupy the office space.
The report said a 255sq m ground floor car park would be provided behind the office space.
Main entry to the complex would be through a lobby on George St.
A health facility was based at the site until 2018, but was relocated to Hillside Rd, South Dunedin.
The report said the roof would be clad in Colorsteel, and the external walls in a mixture of Colorsteel, plastered over concrete masonry, and glazing.
The colours would reflect the heritage values of the George St North Residential Heritage Precinct.
