MPs see Kaka Point attractions
AT THE invitation of the Kaka Point Welfare Association and Mr A. S. Malcolm, M.P. for the Clutha electorate, Messrs C. E. Statham, J. M. Dickson, G. J. Anderson, and E. Kellett, M.P.’s, on Saturday visited what is recognised as one of the finest, if not the finest, seaside holiday resort to be found in the dominion. Although an increasingly large number of people from the Gore and Clinton districts and from the districts contiguous to Kaka Point, find their way there annually it is little known as a holiday resort, to residents in the more populous centres of the South Island. One of the outstanding features is the long stretch of beautiful beach, which is undoubtedly one of the best to be found anywhere from the surf bathers’ point of view.
The visitors, who were motored from Balclutha, were entertained at luncheon on arrival at Kaka Point, and were then motored to the fishing station, where they were shown the various bays and beaches. The fishermen made the request that the Government should assist them to get a secondhand wire rope with which to replace the one at present in use. This rope, which was supplied by the
Government, but which is now almost worn out, is used for hauling in the launches as they return from the fishing grounds. The members of Parliament agreed that this was quite a reasonable request, and doubtless will support any representations made by Mr Malcolm to the Marine Department in this connection.
