Inconsiderate dog walkers causing a stink for some in St Clair

-

DOG owners please remember to carry a plastic bag in your pocket when exercising your fourlegged friend, or tie one to your dog’s lead.

Don’t leave your pooh on the footpaths and grass verges for the home owners to pick up. I have been appalled over the last few days at the state of the streets around the St Clair area .

While walking my dog, I want to be able to look up and enjoy the lovely homes and gardens, not looking down watching where to put my feet. Show consideration for all and also consider the health risk.

Never too old

IAN Smith (letters, 30.3.20) thinks cheques are a good idea, especially for retirees so they can keep track of their finances.

Apart from the fact that postal delivery is constrained during lockdown, and paper, including cash, can transmit Covid19, he might like to consider an observation I made of my now deceased parents. My father, born in 1916, embraced the computer and internet banking, even winning free internet for a year at the age of 90. My mother, born in 1920, was deeply suspicious of the internet and once housebound had to rely on others to get out money for her. It became increasingly difficult for me to communicate with her when she moved into a resthome as she was unable to email or Facetime. Since lockdown I have set up virtual online meetings for groups of friends and students. Most, including many retirees, especially those who live alone, have found these meetings to be stimulating and comforting. I think one of the best things you can do for older people right now is encourage them to embrace the advantages of technology.

April fool

WHAT a treat to be thoroughly taken in by the way to check space distancing when talking to others by making an ODT one metre hat. I was busy telling my husband about the ODT’s generous offer to all New Zealand when he said look at the date. I was the April fool!

Well done. Great to have a laugh in these times of such seriousness.

I SHALL await the delivery of my special Otago Daily Times at 12pm today (ODT, 1.4.20). Thank you for your caring and community spirit as always. You really are the best. I can now, with my hat tipped, brave the streets to get bread and milk. Thank you ODT I have started the day with a smile on my face. It is a tough and anxious time for us singletons alone in our bubble.
