IF David Williamson (Letters, 30.4.20) was a farmer, he would be aware how important it is to respect their land and surrounding environment. Failure to do so would be at their peril. Mr Williamson might want to live in a desert. Most of us don’t.

THAT was a fine summation of the life of Fred Burton, a man for all seasons (Obituaries, 2.5.20). As a member with Fred of the St Kilda Surf Lifesaving Club, I recall his oftrepeated observation: ‘‘The best things in life are free: the sun, the sand, and the surf.’’

WHEN renovating the cottage
(ODT, 1.5.20), the owner could easily have installed a couple of solar panels, and also a water tank to collect water from the roof. Then — presto — electricity and running water. Not expensive, not difficult.
