Students’ art on display and online

Otago University Students’ Association employee Lon van Elk reflects on several of his digital painting works in an annual Student Exhibition at the University Union Hall yesterday.

He was ‘‘pretty chuffed’’ to have works publicly displayed for the first time, during the association’s latest Art Week.

Association events coordinator Shannon van Rooijen said this year, for the first time, about 85 works by 44 mostly student artists could also be viewed online via ousaartweek. nz — and most could be bought that way.

The art exhibition had given students something to do during earlier phases of the coronavirus lockdown: ‘‘It’s something you can go at alone’’, or with friends.

Selling their works would support students financially, and viewing the show also brought students together, she said.
