SENTENCED by Judge Kevin Phillips in the Dunedin District Court yesterday was. —

■ Jarrod Anthony Munro (31), employed, of Dunedin, breaching protection order (engaged in family violence by psychologi­cal abuse of protected person), about 4pm, July 5, three months' community detention (curfewed 7pm6am daily), nine months' supervisio­n, $400 emotional harm reparation (to be paid immediatel­y); unpaid fines ($5610) remitted, 150 hours' community work instead. Public defender Alan de Jager said Munro regretted his behaviour, wanted to make amends, made available money for emotional harm payment.

Sentenced on Wednesday were. —

■ William George Harvey (34), plumber, of Outram, threatenin­g behaviour, unlawful possession of firearm, wilful damage (argument with expartner began over dog, Harvey pointed hose at dog in kennel, tug of war began between couple, Harvey said dog needed a bullet and he would deliver it, victim went to leave property with animal and children, defendant blocked them in, began pacing in “aggressive and threatenin­g manner”, Harvey's father arrived to take family away, defendant tried to prise open car door, police arrived and found insecure .22 rifle with bolt in place behind bedroom door, Harvey's firearms licence was suspended in 2009; Judge Emma Smith said the incident was “an expression of your simple inability to control your own behaviour”), July 1, nine months' supervisio­n, 100 hours' community work, court costs $130, protection order granted, order for destructio­n of firearm.

■ Benjamin Dylan Olsen (27), farm worker, of Dunedin, aggravated driving while disqualifi­ed, failing to stop for police (just weeks after being disqualifi­ed Olsen was seen driving, initially pulled over but as officer stepped out of car he accelerate­d away, nineminute pursuit around South Dunedin ensued, four other passengers in Olsen's vehicle, reached speeds of 30kmh over the limit, told police he “panicked”; counsel Rhona Daysh said her client had since made “big efforts”: he had a job and was now drugfree, Judge Smith noted Olsen had 12 previous driving conviction­s, the offending was “arrogant”), January 22, Hillside Rd, 350 hours' community work, fined $750, court costs $130, 18 months one day disqualifi­cation.

■ Jonathan Connor Cover (22), forestry worker, of Dunedin, breach of community work (100 hours imposed at Alexandra

District Court in December, failed to report, more than 80 hours' community work still outstandin­g), January 29; breach of supervisio­n (failed to attend his induction into sentence four days after the court hearing, turned up two days late, failed to report to five further scheduled meetings; Judge Michael Turner said if Cover breached his new sentence he would be immediatel­y jailed), February 11, previous sentences cancelled, 100 hours' community work imposed.
