Momona A too good for Stingrays

The University Stingrays had their work cut out for them this week in a 60 loss against a determined Momona A.

Fillin goalkeeper Cindy Holmes was welcomed with open arms as an injured Izzy Driscoll had left a huge hole for the Rays.

Peyroux sisters Angelique and Claudia (2) slotted three goals between them, Abby Lennon grabbed a double and Liv Preston also converted.

Once again, the City Highlanders held firmly on to the 2020 challenge shield this week, beating Kings United 70 thanks to a secondhalf flourish by the tabletopper.

Kings looked competitive in the first spell, creating chances and was unlucky not to convert at least one.

However, it seemed to run out of steam towards the final whistle against the more clinical attack of the Highlanders.

Goals came from Sarah Thomas (3), Olivia Allan (2), Caitlin Blakely and Jess Moffett.

The Varsity women came up against an emerging Tigers side this week, both teams searching for some needed points going into the last round of regular competition.

It would be fair to say Taieri came out firing, playing with direct intent in the first quarter and winning most of the ball and territory.

After drinks, the Huskies were able to find their way past Lucy Girvan twice before scrambling at the back which allowed Taieri’s Chantelle Murrel to take advantage of the disorganised students and make it 21.

Taieri had another goal disallowed.

University went on to score another to make the final score 41.

University’s goals were scored by Santi Tyson (2), Petra Hall and Lucy Simpson.

Men

Albany sent a message to the other men’s teams in thrashing University Panthers 61 just before playoffs.

The goals flowed from all directions at a steady pace throughout the match.

Oscar Reid, Jason Dungey, Jack Waddel, Eli Turner, Jakob Annison and Aarie Verway all finished extended periods of pressure on the Panthers.

Tom MacFarlane got one past Hamish Van Dyk for University.

A fullstrength Whales side could only break the United Kingdom once to Kings’ two breaches of the Whales defence to go down 21 at fulltime.

The arm wrestle continues in a tiger turf premier men’s grade that shows off four tightly packed teams all fighting for table positions for playoff time later in the year.

James Nation steadied the ship at the back for Kings United as well as getting on the scoresheet along with Daniel Torr once again.

Cody McKenzie kept his team in touch scoring for the Whales however it was not enough this time round.
