Te Wiki o te Reo Maori
KIA ora koutou.
Readers of the Otago Daily Times will this week notice a fresh phrase on the front page as they sip their morning kawhe.
To mark Te Wiki o te Reo Maori (Maori Language Week), we have replaced our regular motto above the ODT masthead with a te reo Maori translation.
The ‘‘Independent voice of the South’’ will this week become ‘‘Te reo motuhake o te Toka’’ — and our thanks to Ngai Tahu and University of Otago experts for helping with the translation.
Allied Press community newspapers will carry a separate message: ‘‘Kei te pu o to Hapori’’ — ‘‘At the heart of your community’’.
