Ghosts? Not sure where that tale comes from

-

MY family lived at St Bathans for 12 years during the 1960s and ‘70s. During this time, we learned a lot about the fascinating history of the area, from locals of my parents’ generation, most of whom are dead now.

Never once in all these tales were ghosts of any description mentioned (nor prostitutes, for that matter!) (ODT, 25.9.20).

The ghost story arrived on the scene after the hotel changed hands in the 1980s — someone’s brilliant marketing ploy.

Politics

YOUR Labour readers write what they think may have occurred under a National government. Here is what I think.

National would have listened to health experts in February and closed our borders with compulsory isolation.

It would have agreed to a bubble with Australia. No coronavirus in either country. No lockdown.

Fiftyfour percent of our international flights would have continued, to the benefit of tourism. Business would have carried on as usual with no job losses.

Without the ridiculous ‘‘landlord’’ rules, renters would not be forced into cars and garages. Pupils would not have to leave school to earn.

Rents would not have increased so our kids would not go to school hungry. Our child poverty would not have reached record levels.

Instead of our young facing enormous financial headwinds, we would all be enjoying a bright future.

What does National need to do when elected? Get rid of the new ‘‘handbrake’’ laws. Work with business rather than obstruct.
