South Island wool sale
A ‘‘STRONG and buoyant’’ market at last week’s South Island wool sale resulted in one of the highest clearances for the season to date.
There was a quality offering of wool from all breeds and bidding was widespread, PGG Wrightson Wool South Island auction manager Dave Burridge said.
Having a dominant Australian wool exporting company represented on the bench provided ‘‘extra urgency’’ in the room, Mr Burridge said.
Crossbreed fleece was up by 3% while secondshear was up 3%4%. Merino fleece (18 micron) was up 5% to an average price per kilogram (clean) of $14.60 and hogget (16 micron) up 6% to an average of $19. Mid micron was up 1%.
