Mayor of Sydney and St Kilda
The St Kilda Borough council at its special meeting last night associated with it Alderman George T. Clarke of Sydney, who held the position of Mayor
of St Kilda over 40 years ago, and also to other ex Mayors in the persons of Messrs Gabriel Hodges and R. Mitchell. In formally and heartily welcoming Mr Clark back to his old borough, the Mayor, Mr A.D. Edgar, referred to Mr Clarke as an exMayor of Sydney, and said that his career had been an inspiration to himself and to many others who had sat around the St Kilda Council table since. He congratulated him on his success and wished him every prosperity and pleasure in his remaining years. Alderman Clarke said he would still have been on the Sydney City Council, had it not been for his advocacy of conscription in a part of the city where that was not popular. He was now an alderman for North Sydney, but he was still a young man, and hoped to return and secure a seat again in the City Council.
