Tourism has chance for something ‘special’

INCOMING Tourism Minister Stuart Nash has a huge opportunit­y to do something ‘‘very special’’ with the sector, Tourism Industry Aotearoa (TIA) says.

The former police, fisheries and revenue minister takes over the portfolio from Labour Party deputy leader Kelvin Davis.

The industry is welcoming the appointmen­t, particular­ly in light of his new role with

Economic and Developmen­t.

TIA chief executive Chris Roberts said Mr Nash could continue the efforts to ensure tourism recovered its place among the biggest contributo­rs to the economy.

Mr Roberts was pleased the important portfolio had stayed with a senior minister, saying Mr Nash’s experience as small business minister would be valuable.

TIA wants to discuss its 100Day Plan for the new government with Mr Nash as soon as possible.

Mr Nash has been asked to give his first significan­t tourism industry address at the Tourism Summit Aotearoa in Wellington later this month. — RNZ
