Japanese immigration to US curbed
Washington: It is learned from a high authority that the State Department anticipated the Californian decision on the antiJapanese referendum and tentatively reached an agreement with the Japanese Ambassador concerning the situation.
It is understood that both sides agreed to the enactment of a law prohibiting the immigration of Japanese to the United States, and in return for this the Japanese in California will be accorded full civil property rights. It is believed that the Japanese government will accept such an arrangement and that a treaty covering the details will be drawn up and sent to the Senate. — ODT, 6.11.1920.
