Construction of a 2.5m retaining wall at the State Highway 88 Roseneath cutting is well under way.

A New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) spokesman said the wall would carry a section of the $31 million Dunedin to Port Chalmers walkway/ cycleway above the highway and users would be protected by secure fencing.

Made of large concrete panels, the retaining wall provides a perfect opportunity to showcase Dunedin’s creative talent.

NZTA engaged Dunedin artist Simon Kaan to develop the panels (above). The first of these are expected to arrive on site before Christmas.

The project is expected to be completed on schedule, by the second half of 2022.
