HITTING THE MARK

-

The inaugural and quite possibly the last weekly awards are shared between a trio of players. Auckland seamer Kyle Jamieson’s career continues to soar, despite ranking ridiculously low in a previous column penned by Notes From Slip. He has claimed a fivewicket bag in his last four firstclass games — one of them was for the Black Caps. He was named in both the test and twenty20 squads earlier this week and shares the weekly award with Wellington’s Devon Conway and Otago’s Max Chu.

We will finally get to see Conway play some international cricket after the prolific lefthander was included in the twenty20 side but inexplicably left out of the test side.

And the 20yearold Chu showed he has the defensive qualities and temperament to forge a long and successful firstclass career. He helped Otago secure a most unlikely draw against a quality Canterbury attack with an epic innings of denial. He saw off 229 balls and batted for four and ahalf hours for 41 not out.
