Goal at death as Southern United upsets Waikato
SOUTHERN United pulled off a remarkable comeback to begin its weekend on the futsal court.
The side scored three goals in the final three minutes to beat the Waikato Rapids 43 in the Super
League’s final weekend in Auckland.
Carlos Hermann scored the last two of those, including slotting the matchwinner from a Mike Sannum pass with just 12sec to play.
It was a brilliant comeback after trailing 31 for much of the game against the team that entered the weekend atop the table.
Waikato led 20 early, before Yun
Sung Chang pegged one back for Southern.
The Rapids added a third before halftime, though, and kept Southern quiet for most of the second half.
However, Tim O’Farrell struck with 2min 46sec left.
A minute later, Adam Hewson intercepted a pass and put Hermann in to equalise with 1min 35sec to play.
That tied the score at 33, allowing Hermann to score his matchwinner.
The team played Bay of Plenty Surge last night.
Today, it faces Auckland and the Northern Comets.
The semifinals and final are tomorrow, if Southern makes it that far.
