Road toll mounts

Whangarei: A person died when a car crashed into the Mahurangi River in the Northland town of Warkworth yesterday afternoon.

Police said that when rescuers reached the car, its sole occupant was found dead inside.

About 9.45am yesterday, a motorcyclist died after a crash in New Plymouth.

A pedestrian died after being hit by a car about 2am yesterday, near Flaxmere, in Hawke’s Bay.

On Saturday afternoon, a motorcyclist died after a crash in Matapihi Rd, Tauranga.
