Highland dancing at Middlemarch

-

THE StrathTaieri Caledonian Society’s annual sports meeting was held at Middlemarch yesterday in beautiful weather. It was a busy day in the township. Folk came in from far and near and quite a large number went up from town, the committee having arranged for special trains. An attractive programme of events was provided, and spectators had the pleasure of witnessing some good sport. Children were especially well catered for in a number of races for themselves, and there was plenty to interest everybody on the ground. The committee has to be congratulated upon the addition of piping and dancing competitions to the StrathTaieri meeting. These always arouse interest in Otago, and the new feature added greatly to the attractiveness of the gathering yesterday. It was quite evident that they were a welcome innovation. There were large entries in every competition and many of the competitors travelled far to take part in them.
