Rangers pleased by anglers’ compliance

- STAFF REPORTER

AN 8yearold Invercargill boy was one of many people out fishing in Central Otago over the holiday period.

Otago Fish and Game rangers spent time on the central and southern lakes over the holiday period and Fish & Game officer Paul van Klink said rangers were out most days.

“We checked more than 140 licences over a fiveday period leading up to the new year and all were compliant bar one.

“This is incredibly pleasing to see — most anglers understand the rules governing freshwater angling and are keen to abide by them and support Fish & Game’s management of the resource”.

Licences and regulations can be obtained from local outdoor suppliers or the Fish & Game website.

Mr van Klink said while the weather had been patchy at best, it was great to see many boats and shorebased anglers out having a go.

“My one reminder to make life easier for everyone — carry your licence or an image of it on your phone.

‘‘This means rangers can check details on the spot and saves you having to prove you held a licence at a later date.”
