New wharf an angling asset

- GRANT ASHTON

Allan Millar’s Hunting and Fishing

THIS is a new wharf along the edge of the Port Chalmers container port just before Careys Bay. Species include salmon, mullet, sprat, blue and red cod, kahawai, barracouta, trumpeter, blue moki and occasionally kingfish. Like most areas in the harbour, Boiler Point fishes better on the incoming to high tide. Most forms of sea fishing work here including ledger rigs, dropper rigs, floats with dead baits (most common for salmon fishing) and spin fishing. November to

March are the most productive months due to a larger number of species present.
