Johnson calls for peace

London: British Prime Minister Boris Johnson in a tweet called the events in Congress a ‘‘disgrace’’, saying the US stood for democracy and it was ‘‘vital’’ now to have a peaceful and orderly transfer of power.

British interior minister Priti Patel said the storming of the Capitol by supporters of Donald Trump was ‘‘terrible beyond words’’ and called on Trump to condemn the violence. — Reuters
