Council given $15m for water projects
THE Dunedin City Council has been given just over $15 million to spend on extra water, wastewater and stormwater projects.
The money will come from the Government’s Covid19 stimulus funding available to local authorities to maintain and improve 3 Waters infrastructure.
Council 3 Waters group manager Tom Dyer said the projects the council put forward for funding would cut wastewater overflows to the environment and reduce water network outages.
They would improve the quality of treated wastewater discharges and reduce the risk of drinking water contamination.
The total funding received is about $15.8 million, but the projects have not been tendered yet and actual costs are not yet known.
The city council is spending $592,000 itself on capital renewals and $58,000 on what it called regional collaboration.
