Sheep dogs have an important job to do herding stock, but the best of them have been taken to shows by their owners for generation­s to compete against each other. The 1972 Wanaka Collie Club trials drew 100 contestant­s from across the South Island, and watching this run intently are (from left) G. Lucas (Tarras), trial clerk P. Anderson, J. Brown (Dingle Burn), Mr W. Atkins (Luggate) and W.S. Wilson (Waitahuna).
