Arrest after firearm found

Wellington: A 46yearold woman was arrested in Wellington in Wednesday, after a search found a loaded cutdown shotgun at a Khandallah house last month.

The woman is charged with the unlawful possession of a firearm, following the discovery of the weapon during the execution of a search warrant in the Wellington suburb of Khandallah in December.

A police spokesman said the search was conducted as part of inquiries into recent crimes, including the supply of firearms, by Nomads gang members and associates in the Wellington region.

Further arrests and charges were likely as inquiries progressed, police said.

The woman is scheduled to appear in the Wellington District Court on Monday. — The New Zealand Herald
