Mosgiel is really sick of being the poor cousin

-

THE article about the transport package to keep Dunedin moving (ODT, 11.1.21) has rekindled my thoughts on why the Mosgiel and the Taieri transport network has not been developed.

It was fully funded in the Dunedin City Council Annual Plan many years ago — to be completed about 2020.

Funding for the project appeared to have disappeared to another area when funds for that project blew out.

The Mosgiel main shopping and business area has suffered for years with traffic destined for the North Taieri industrial area disturbing the peace and quiet of what should be an enjoyable shopping experience.

When one contemplates the multimillions being spent on George St to enhance the shopping experience to what is not being spent on Mosgiel’s shopping area, one can only wonder if Mosgiel/Taieri are getting a fair share of the cake.

Are we all being treated as equals by this council?

The Mosgiel/Taieri area must contribute a massive rate take towards the council spending.

Yet it struggles to get important issues like its transportation network developed.

How much longer will the Mosgiel transportation network remain on the backburner while the innercity transportation package takes preference?

New hospital

AS I approach my 86th birthday, I wonder how I’ll manage to find my way around Dunedin’s central district when the hospital rebuild gets serious.

Why do we need a new hospital? Can’t the current one be refurbished on site? Having spent three months there in 2018, it seemed uptodate and efficient.

Part of the new site would make a lovely, green space for lounging around, a definite asset for adding to the beauty and character of the city that would attract locals and visitors alike. Why not run a poll to test local opinion?
