Bushfire threatens lives

Perth: West Australian authorities have issued an emergency warning for a bushfire threatening lives and homes in Nannup, 280km south of Perth.

Residents of the Darradup community were in danger and needed to act immediately to survive by leave providing there was a clear path or prepare to defend their homes, the Department of Fire and Emergency Services said yesterday.

Seventy firefighters were last night battling the blaze, which was caused by lightning and had already burned through 200ha.
