Carnival, Glastonbury off

-

Rio de Janeiro: It will not be possible to host carnival celebrations in July, Rio de Janeiro’s new mayor Eduardo Paes said yesterday, as Brazil’s second wave of coronavirus infections gathers steam and vaccine supplies remain scarce there.

Brazil is reeling from a brutal second wave in a pandemic that has claimed more than 200,000 lives, the second highest total in the world after the United States.

µ Britain’s Glastonbury Festival, the largest greenfield music festival in the world, has been cancelled for the second year running because of the Covid19 pandemic, organisers said yesterday.

‘‘With great regret, we must announce that this . . . will be another enforced fallow year for us,’’ the organisers said on Twitter. — Reuters
