CDK hits back with easy win
North East Valley 105 all out lost to Carisbrook/Dunedin Kaikorai 106 for four by six wickets
There was a slice of revenge for Carisbrook/Dunedin Kaikorai at Logan Park on Saturday.
The side had lost to North East Valley in the twenty20 final the previous weekend but got the better of the same side on Saturday as a round of 50over matches was played.
North East Valley failed to fire and managed 105 in its turn at bat.
In something of a coincidence that was the same score the combined side made in its loss to the Valley team in the T20 final.
Noone got going for Valley and Patrick Arnold cleaned up the tail, picking up five wickets on the way. Valley lost its last seven wickets for 20 runs.
Chasing the relatively small target, CDK had no problems getting there and got the job done in the 20th over with the loss of just four wickets.
Anjas Bhogal scored 44 at better than a run a ball and CDK strolled to victory.
Arnold backed up his bowling effort with an unbeaten 16 to complete a good day.
Jarrod McKay took a couple of wickets for North East Valley but it was a day to forget for his team.
Albion 300 for five beat Green Island 247 by 53 runs
Jesse Simpson scored exactly half his side’s total as Albion enjoyed a 53run win over Green Island at Sunnyvale.
Simpson came in at No 3 for Albion and scored an unbeaten 150 off 145 balls, hitting 16 fours and a six. He shared a 188run partnership with Angus McKenzie, who hit 80 as the Albion side enjoyed batting on a friendly wicket.
Keegan Russell grabbed four wickets for Green Island but most of the rest struggled to keep the Albion batsmen at bay.
Green Island started well in reply and Brad Kneebone and Gregor Croudis shared an opening stand of 74. But once Kneebone went, the task got harder and it proved too much for Green Island.
Dan Wright and Ryan Whelan shared an unbeaten 61run stand at the end in the final nine and ahalf overs but the team could not get close enough to even get a sniff of victory.
Simpson wrapped up a good allround game by taking three wickets with the ball and also two catches.
Taieri 244 for nine beat UniversityGrange 82 all out by 162 runs
Benji Culhane introduced himself to the Dunedin club competition with a century at Brooklands on Saturday.
Culhane batted at No 4 for the Taieri side and scored an unbeaten 104 as Taieri had a decisive win over University-Grange.
Culhane, the son of former All Black Simon Culhane, has just left Southland Boys’ High School, and scored a big century for Otago at the national under19 tournament earlier this summer.
He scored his 104 off 107 balls and backed it up by collecting three catches as the wicketkeeper.
Shannon Young, at the top of the order, chipped in with a useful 33.
The combined team never got going in reply and half the side was out by the 15th over. It was eventually dismissed for 82 in 29 overs.
Regan Flaws took six wickets in an impressive spell of bowling for Taieri.
