No luck for Otago pugilists

Boxing: One of the smallest Otago teams to attend a national championships took part in the tournament in Wellington at the weekend.

Matt Crawford got a bye into the final of the lightweight division but was stopped in the second round by home town boxer Alex Mukuka. Crawford took a couple of shots but it was a surprising call to end his bout in the second round.

Awatea Henry fought in the middleweight division, moving up from welterweight and lost in a split decision to Tobias Jensen, of Wellington. Jensen went on to win the national title.

The event was actually the 2020 championships, but it was held in January after it was rescheduled because of Covid19.
