Bamako: Malian and French forces killed about 100 jihadists and took another 20 captive in a joint operation in central Mali this month, the West African nation's army said in a statement yesterday.

It said the campaign lasted from January 2 to 20 and targeted areas bordering Burkina Faso, where militant groups with links to al Qaeda and Islamic State control large tracts of the desert and regularly carry out raids on the army and civilians. — Reuters
