No Jensen for clash against Canterbury

- ADRIAN SECONI

Three years ago the Rebels and the Clippers created history.

The two teams competed in what was believed to have been the first game between two allgirls teams in Dunedin junior cricket.

Rebels coach Donna Burns said at the time girls cricket was blossoming at Taieri Cricket Club. The club had four teams and she issued a challenge to the other clubs in the city to do more.

Tomorrow the Kaikorai Sapphires will make their debut in premier primary grade. Otago Cricket Association general manager of community cricket Andrew Petrie said the girls’ game was making good progress and that a women and girls’ cricket festival late last year attracted a couple of hundred participants.
