Machinery cranking up

- Laura.smith@odt.co.nz

The 34th annual Crank Up is set to roll into Edendale today.

Edendale Vintage Machinery Club president Sharron Caughey and family had been preparing since Wednesday for the thousands of visitors expected.

Everything had gone smoothly despite the drizzly weather, she said.

While she could not be sure how many people would attend the event, in previous years it had usually been between 7000 and 8000.

People from all over the South headed to the annual event, and most stallholders of the 34th Crank Up were from around Southland, she said.

Many of them were families and vintage enthusiasts.

Event convener Ken Bell said a variety of entertainment was planned for the two days.

‘‘There’s all sorts. We have live and static displays of machinery all day, every day.’’

The annual street parade around Edendale was held last night.
