Whistleblower laws supported
Wellington: The auditorgeneral is backing proposed new laws that aim to protect whistleblowers, especially in the public sector.
The Protected Disclosures (Protection of Whistleblowers) Bill was introduced last June by then State Services Minister Chris Hipkins.
Auditorgeneral John Ryan said the changes would strengthen the integrity of the public sector and help address corruption.
In a written submission, he asked that a clause in the Bill be tweaked to recognise the auditorgeneral’s position as an independent officer of Parliament. — RNZ
